An absolutely marvelous distressed and antique Dragon Heriz from Persia. Circa late 1880-90’s. Incredibly value for this distressed antique masterpiece!!

Heriz rugs most often originate from Northwest Iran in the province of Azerbaijan (such as Bakshis, Ahar, Gorevan, and Serapi). Distinct rectilinear patterns make them standout amongst the curvaceous Persian pack, showing inspiration from the Caucasian rugs of the 17th and 18th Century.

This is an exceptional yet distressed example (see images of notable wear in certain spots) of a Heriz Serapi with repeating lattice patterns as opposed to a central medallion. Incredible sunburnt bricks, pinks, rust red, and vibrant blues are highly sought after and this work has it all.
